January Hiatus

I’ve been posting daily book reviews since February 20, 2015, and I’m ready for a break.  I love doing this blog, but as you can imagine, it’s time-consuming to read and review a book every day.  For the last few weeks, I’ve been thinking about shutting down, but I’m not ready to call it quits for good.

I’ve decided to take the month of January off.  It’s a good time, since I’ve read and reviewed most of the 2016 books I want to, and it will be a few weeks until I can start getting my hands on 2017 books.  I’ll use the time off to decide whether or not I’ll continue reviewing in 2017, and get back to you no later than February 1.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear feedback about the blog, so please feel free to leave a comment or email me at jkdhamilton@gmail.com.  Thank you so much for reading my reviews, and I will be back in a few weeks!

  1. Janet, I look forward to your recommendations so much! Selfishly, I’m wondering if you could post once a week instead of once a day. Your reviews are incredibly valuable and I order everything you recommend from the public library to read myself before ordering for my school library. I just discovered you this past summer. I can’t imagine how much work it is for you, though. Enjoy your well deserved break! And thank you for all you do!

    1. Thank you, Gail!  It’s so great to get positive feedback, and is making me want to get back to the blog in February.  I sometimes feel like I send my posts into a black hole, and I have no idea who is reading them, so it’s nice to know they’re useful.  Thanks again!

  4. I love your reviews, and I have often thought “this blog must be a ton of work for her!” So, that said, I’d understand and love to see sporadic reviews in 2017 and beyond. Maybe just books that made your say “wow!” in good or bad ways.
Happy New Year. Your hard work has been a helpful guide in my kidlit reading life. Thanks!

Thanks again, and happy new year to you, too!

  7. Hi Janet. My name is Holly … I’m a Youth Services librarian in NJ and I truly appreciate your thoughtful reviews. I am responsible for EF-JF collection development for my library system and your blog has helped me find some real treasures that were not reviewed in Booklist or SLJ. So, thank you for your time, hard work, and expertise. Best wishes to you in 2017!

  8. Hi Janet — Enjoy your much deserved break. I read children’s books to inform my own writing and keep up with the market. I love your blog because it helps me add books to my “want to read” journal.

I love reading your blog. It’s helped me a lot as I decide which children’s books to buy for my public library. I understand that it’s a ton of work, though! Even blogging once a week instead of every day would be so helpful.
    Thank you,
